24 Masters

This term, we are playing the game '24' at the start of every maths lesson. In the game, we have to use addition, subtraction, multiplication or division to create an equation using four digits that equals 24. We have been improving as the term goes on, and some people have been using some very useful strategies, which will help us when we participate in the Interschool 24 Tournament in September.
What effective strategies do you use?

Hi Ms. Power,

I love how you made a movie of our 24 games. It was really smart. My strategies are just try adding all of them together first. That usually works for me. what strategies do you use?

Hi Miss Power

This movie is awesome! I think it's very clever that you put the info at the end of the movie that you normally see at the end of actual trailers. A strategy that I have is to try adding all of the numbers together before I do anything else. Are you going to make a movie of the '24' Tournament this September?

Hi Megan and Aretha

I'm glad you both like the movie trailer! What a great idea to make a movie of the actual 24 Tournament, Aretha! Maybe you could help me?
I think you girls use a great strategy. I also use that strategy, but if that doesn't work, I try to find 'friendly factors' like 8 and 3 or 6 and 4. I think I still need more practice, though!
Keep practising!

Hi Ms Power,

I would most definitely LOVE to make the movie with you. Factors do make it alot easier! I think we would have great fun making the movie!

Hi Miss Power,

I LOVE your video about playing the game 24. I liked how you made it look like a trailer for a real movie. What program did you use? It is free to download?

Hi Vincent
I'm glad you like my movie trailer. I used iMovie to create it. In iMovie you can create movies or trailers. I chose the 'trailer' option, and it's really easy to create them! Maybe we should create one in class over the next couple of weeks? I wonder what we could create a movie trailer about...

Hi Miss Power
I think the '24' Action movie was AWESOME! I wish I was in it more though. But it was so cool even my parents liked it? Coming back to Vincents Q, what did you use to make it?

Hi Damian
Yes, I noticed that you only really featured in one scene. I will have to cast you as a leading actor next time ;) Do you have any ideas of some work we're doing this term that we could film and create another movie trailer about?

Hi Miss Power,

Awesome movie trailer, it looks so realistic, like it is actually going to be in the cinemas one day. I loved the action packed 24 games I think it was really clever and intense. Are we going to make trailers at school as a class? It would be so much fun. Matthew. G and I are making a trailer about a book we are reading. Hope it turns out as good as yours!

Sincerly

Hi Tony
Thanks for that! I'm glad you liked it. We will definitely make movie trailers as a class. We had a bit of fun making 'Who Ate All The Popcorn?' during our wet day timetable last week! Would you like to help me make a movie trailer on camp this week?
It would be great if you thought of an idea for a movie trailer! You can grab my iPad and make one yourself at school.
Can't wait to see the trailer that you and Matthew plan to make!

Hi Miss Power,

I really enjoyed watching the trailer, it looked like a professional trailer maker made it. How did you use the Imovie affects to make that? I really never understood how to do it on the Macs.

Hi Miss Power,
Well done on the movie trailer. I think that it looks really good. I was wondering who was going to film the actual finals for the movie?

Hello Miss Power,

I really enjoyed the '24' movie trailer because it really showed the mathematicians in thinking and their reaction time. Some of the strategies that I use when playing '24' are:
1. Finding factors and multiples of 24.
2. Using 3 numbers to create 24 if there is a 1 so I can multiply the answer by 1.
3. Find the operation(s) that would help to get 24. An example is '7,2,5,2'. The operations I would use are multiplication and addition. '7x2=14' and '5x2=10'. Now I'd add 14 and 10 together to get 24. These are my effective strategies for '24'.
Are there any other easier strategies? Is there a website dedicated to the strategies of '24'?
