Today, we were lucky enough to have Giulia and Claudia (two of our Praying Mantises) to lead us in our daily meditation. The girls spent some time putting a lot of thought and consideration into creating this PowerPoint, and leading the meditation. Well done girls! It was lovely to see you taking the initiative to do something so lovely for your classmates! Thank you.

This Sunday it will be Pentecost! On the day of Pentecost, the Holy Spirit came upon the disciples and they spoke many different languages, and tongues of fire appeared above their heads. In preparation for Pentecost, we completed several different learning activities and learnt much more about this special event and the significance of it in Catholicism. As a part of our learning, Miss Power asked us to find the story of Pentecost in the Bible. This was a tricky task, because we didn't know where it would be! We discussed what we knew about Pentecost - it happened after Jesus died, and there were flames on people's heads. We also knew that the New Testament is all about Jesus' ministry on earth, and the Gospel's of Matthew, Mark, Luke and John tell us all about Jesus' life on earth. Since we knew that Pentecost happened AFTER Jesus' life, we predicted that the passage might be at the end of one of the Gospels, or in a book that came after the Gospels in the Bible. The rest got a bit complicated, as there were many ways you could locate a passage in the bible. So we put together a PowerPoint slideshow of instructions that you can follow if you ever need to locate a passage in the Bible - a handy skill! We hope you enjoy and find it useful! On Thursday 2nd May, the grade 6s, 5M, 5/6D and all the Prep classes got together for some fun! We started off with our tabloid sports activities, which we had so much fun playing together. This was followed by a delicious sausage sizzle. Yummo! Check out the iMovie trailer and the feature film PhotoStory below for a taste of the fun we had on the day! In March, this year, 110 year five students embarked on our long-awaited journey to Camp Rumbug. We had seen footage from last year's camp and we were enthusiastic about getting revenge on Mr Malone, our Principal, during the annual 'mud run'. The mud run is a 1.7km run around the campsite, which (funnily enough) involves a LOT of mud. Check out this iMovie trailer to find out if this year's students were successful in their quest to get their revenge...
Lots of fantastic photos were taken whilst we were away at Camp Rumbug in March. In this PhotoStory, you may be able to spot some specks of mud on some of our grade 5 students! Thanks to all the photographers for all their great snaps! During Lent, we hung out with our Prep Buddies to help them make a stained glass window of the Cross. It was a great chance for us to get to know each other and work cooperatively. Check out our iMovie Trailer...
In 5M, we are lucky enough to have been partnered up with Prep D for buddies! We met our Prep Buddies for the first time a few weeks ago, and we love working and playing with them! Here is a lovely photo montage of us with our buddies.
LEARNING ABOUT THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT DURING LENTThere are seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit and during Lent, we focus on one gift each week. In Grade 5M, we have been reading the Lectio Divina book each week, learning about each of the Gifts and and creatively sharing our learning about each of the Gifts. ASH WEDNESDAY - Wisdom: This Gift allows us to see that sometimes we may need to endure hardships in order to appreciate the good things in life, according to God's loving plan for us all. WEEK ONE - Understanding: This Gift helps us to interpret God's will in the daily events of our lives. WEEK TWO - Right Judgement: This gift helps us to make good choices in light of how Christ lived, and helps us to avoid poor decisions. Keily and Hayden each created fantastic PowerPoint presentations which highlight the important messages about the Gift of Right Judgement...
WEEK THREE- Courage: This Gift helps us see where our real strenghts lie, because sometimes we might become shy or have fears that can hold us back from fulfilling our potential. With Courage, we receive extra strength from God to overcome difficulties. The following PowerPoint Presentations and images were created by Lucas, Maddison, Hayden, Richelle, Natalie, Julia, Daniel and Paolo... Courage Mindmap, created by Lucas M using Inspiration 9

Last term, we all went to Cinema Nova to see the documentary movie, I Am Eleven. It is directed by Geneveive Bailey, and is about a group of eleven year olds from all over the world. It gave us real insight into what life is like for people our age, in other countries. Our favourite character was Billy. His simple views about life in general were very entertaining!
Anyway, we were inspired by Geneveive's movie, and for a home learning task in the weeks following our excursion to Cinema Nova, we prepared our own documentary. We hope you enjoy watching and learning about OUR views on life; our hopes and dreams for the future; as well as the things that worry and concern us, in the three part documentary below :) Not so long ago, we read the creation story from the Book of Genesis in the Bible. As we read, we focused on visualising what was happening in the text. We then viewed and critically discussed some artwork by artists from a vast range of eras and techniques. In our discussions, we shared the different elements of the creation story that the artists portrayed in their work, and we discussed the techniques they used to convey their message through art. We then created our own pieces of art, based on what we had visualised while reading the creation story. We drew inspiration from some of the artwork we had viewed too. Below is a film which contains each piece of art created by the members of our class, and if you listen carefully while you view the art, you will hear us giving our own artistic explanation of what we have drawn, why we have drawn it, and what artistic techniques we used. We hope you enjoy viewing it!
