Today we looked at a picture of extreme poverty and used it as a stimulus to write our own narratives. Then for good measure we created this Wordle with the help of Renata, Julia, Mariam and Nat.

Last week, we were just getting stuck into a science lesson with Miss Power, when her plans went out the window. We were supposed to be watching a video about Albert Einstein to help us learn more about him. Unfortunately the video wouldn't play, but we had a synopsis of the information that was meant to be covered in the video. It was great that Miss Power's plans went out the window, because what we ended up doing was much more fun! Using the synopsis of what was meant to be in HER video, we got into groups and spent some time developing our research skills as WE found out the details about Albert Einstein's life by researching. Here is the final product of a hard day's work. We worked in teams, we learnt new research skills such as using the advanced search tools on Google, we created and used cue cards (which are different to scripts), and we faced the dreaded fear of speaking in front of a video camera. We hope you enjoy our video and that you learn something new about this interesting scientist! Last week in Maths, we started learning about angles. To begin, we got into groups and brainstormed everything we knew about angles and published these key words and ideas onto a 'Today's Meet' feed that Miss Power created. It was interesting to see that many of us knew some similar concepts relating to angles. Here is a screen capture of a section of our Today's Meet feed... (If you click on the image, it will direct you to the full feed) It was great to scroll through our Today's Meet feed, but it didn't give us a very clear idea of what our understandings of angles were. So we used Wordle to create this visual word cloud, which gives you a much better idea! The words that are the biggest were the most common words that we brainstormed in Today's Meet. The smaller words are the ones that popped up once or twice. You will notice that 'Daniel's Hair' made an appearance as his hair is always VERY angular and sculpted to perfection! What else do you know about angles? As you learn new skills and understandings of angles, feel free to leave a comment below.
In March, this year, 110 year five students embarked on our long-awaited journey to Camp Rumbug. We had seen footage from last year's camp and we were enthusiastic about getting revenge on Mr Malone, our Principal, during the annual 'mud run'. The mud run is a 1.7km run around the campsite, which (funnily enough) involves a LOT of mud. Check out this iMovie trailer to find out if this year's students were successful in their quest to get their revenge...
During Lent, we hung out with our Prep Buddies to help them make a stained glass window of the Cross. It was a great chance for us to get to know each other and work cooperatively. Check out our iMovie Trailer...
In 5M, we are lucky enough to have been partnered up with Prep D for buddies! We met our Prep Buddies for the first time a few weeks ago, and we love working and playing with them! Here is a lovely photo montage of us with our buddies.
LEARNING ABOUT THE SEVEN GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT DURING LENTThere are seven Gifts of the Holy Spirit and during Lent, we focus on one gift each week. In Grade 5M, we have been reading the Lectio Divina book each week, learning about each of the Gifts and and creatively sharing our learning about each of the Gifts. ASH WEDNESDAY - Wisdom: This Gift allows us to see that sometimes we may need to endure hardships in order to appreciate the good things in life, according to God's loving plan for us all. WEEK ONE - Understanding: This Gift helps us to interpret God's will in the daily events of our lives. WEEK TWO - Right Judgement: This gift helps us to make good choices in light of how Christ lived, and helps us to avoid poor decisions. Keily and Hayden each created fantastic PowerPoint presentations which highlight the important messages about the Gift of Right Judgement...
WEEK THREE- Courage: This Gift helps us see where our real strenghts lie, because sometimes we might become shy or have fears that can hold us back from fulfilling our potential. With Courage, we receive extra strength from God to overcome difficulties. The following PowerPoint Presentations and images were created by Lucas, Maddison, Hayden, Richelle, Natalie, Julia, Daniel and Paolo... Courage Mindmap, created by Lucas M using Inspiration 9

In 5/6P, we have a display of lots of different computer shortcuts (like CTRL-C for Copy). If you click on the link, you can check them out! Do you know any more? If you do, let us know, so we can add them to our class display!
